A Visitor Visa (also known as a Temporary Resident Visa) is required for individuals from visa-required countries—such as those in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, or Latin America—who want to visit Canada temporarily for tourism, business, or family visits. The visa is necessary regardless of the visitor’s intended duration of stay, whether it is for a few days or several months, and is typically valid up to six months.
Individuals with passports from visa-exempt countries travelling to Canada by air need to apply for an eTA before their departure to Canada. An eTA is electronically linked to your passport and allows you to visit Canada for short stays, usually up to six months.
There are some expectations, such as for U.S. citizens who do not need a Visitor Visa or eTA to travel to Canada, while U.S. Greed Card holders must apply for an eTA to fly to Canada.
A Super Visa is s a type of multiple-entry visa intended for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents, allowing extended stays. The super visa lets you visit your children or grandchildren for five years at a time and provides multiple entries for a period of up to 10 years.
You can apply for a super visa online, or by submitting a paper-based application. In either case, you must prove that you are the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
Additionally, there is an application fee of $100 per person. Applicants must apply from outside Canada and meet general temporary residence requirements as a visitor.
